Come to the Fields if the weather is fine, or the Hall if raining, and grab yourself a bargain. Even the kitchen sink this month!
Harry's Mart is held every second month on the first Saturday.

Come early to haggle with the dealers or come later and have an enjoyable sausage sizzle
Funds raised go towards the re roofing project in which the Asbestos roof of St Martin's will be replaced with colourbond.

Acknowledgement of Nyoongar custodianship of this land and Baptisms

An acknowledgement of the Nyoongar people as the original custodians of this land will happen at the commencement of the service of Baptism at St Martin's on Sunday 25th May, 2008.

A plaque, with the acknowledgement in both English and Nygoongar, will be blessed and placed on the wall of the stairs leading into the Church. This is a significant day for this Parish as we recognised the mutuality which is inherent in any reconciliation process. We hope and pray that such a small action may help in the healing of the land, its people and our relationships with each other.

Following the acknowledgement ceremony we will enter into the Church where we will baptise some 23 members of Vivienne Sahanna's extended family into the body of Christ. This will be a great celebration of faith. The baptisms will be followed by a celebratory bbq morning tea.

Service on Sunday 27 April will include Rwandan Genocide Memorial

On Sunday 27 April during the 9.00am service our Parish will host the Perth Rwandan community as they remember the massacres which took place in Rwanda in 1994 and to give thanks for life and offers prayers for reconciliation and healing. Rwandan Genocide

The Rwandan Genocide was the systematic murder of Rwanda's Tutsi minority and the moderates of its Hutu majority, in 1994. This was both the bloodiest period of the Rwandan Civil War and the worst genocide of the 1990s. With the preliminary implementation of the Arusha Accords, the Tutsi rebels and Hutu regime were able to agree to a cease-fire, and further negotiations were underway. The diplomatic efforts to end the conflict were at first thought to be successful, yet even with the MRND and RPF (political wing of the RPA) in talks, certain Hutu factions, like the CDR, were against any agreement for cooperation between the regime, and the rebels, to end Rwanda's ethnic and economic troubles and progress towards a stable nationhood. The genocide was primarily the action of two extremist Hutu militias, the Interahamwe (military wing of the MRND) and the Impuzamugambi (military wing of the CDR), against dissenters to their Hutu extremism. Over the course of about 100 days, from April 6 to mid-July, at least 500,000 Tutsis and thousands of Hutus were killed during the genocide.[1] Some estimates put the death toll around the 800,000 and 1,000,000 marks.[2]
With the genocide, and the resurgence in the civil war, Rwanda's conflict was thought by the United Nations to be too difficult and volatile for it to handle. Eventually, the Tutsi rebels successfully brought the country under their control and overthrew the Hutu regime. Hundreds of thousands of Hutu refugees fled across the borders, mainly west to Zaire (now the Democratic Republic of the Congo). The presence of the extreme Hutu factions on the border with Rwanda was the cause for the First and Second Congo Wars, with clashes between these groups and the RPF's RPA, now part of a coalition force, even until today.[1] Rivalry between the Hutus and Tutsis is also central to the Burundian Civil War.
The UN's neglect of the Rwandan Genocide, under comprehensive media coverage, drew severe criticism. France, Belgium, and the United States in particular, received negative attention for their complacency towards the extreme Hutu regime's oppressions. Canada, Ghana, and the Netherlands, did continue to provide a force on the ground, under the command of Roméo Dallaire of the United Nations Assistance Mission for Rwanda (UNAMIR), but this mission had little actual power without support from the UN Security Council. Despite specific demands from UNAMIR's commanders in Rwanda, before and throughout the genocide, its requests for authorization to intervene were refused, and its capacity was even reduced.

Parish Quiet Day during Holy Week

A small group of parishioners gathered for a Quiet Day during Holy Week. The day was spent in quietly listening to meditations on the rythmn of Holy Week, personal reflection and writing and if the mood was right, helping to paint the Easter banner for the Parish fence.

The Season of Advent is a time when we look backwards at Israel's expectation of the Messiah, and forwards to the ultimate triumph of Jesus. During Advent we will hear the message of judgement and the reign of Christ so that as we beginning the liturgical year and celebrate the birth of the Christ child at Christmas, we do so in the full knowledge that it really only make sense when we understand it from a post-Easter perspective.

There will be no services at St Martin's this weekend.

Instead of the Kids' Saturday evening service everyone is encouraged to attend the

Roll up with Roly

event at Scarborough Parish from 12noon to 2pm. This is particularrly suitable for primary aged kids.

On Sunday the double decker bus will depart St Martin's for the Diocesan Day ofWorship and Celebration at Challenge Stadium at 9am.

Come onboard and avoid the parking hassels. $6 for a return trip!!

Parish Busy Bee in time for the Verge Pick Up

The usual pre Easter City of South Perth Verge Pick up will happen from 2nd April. So it will be all hands to the pump on Saturday 31st March from 8am until the jobs are finished. Please come prepared to prune the garden, remove the rubbish pile to the verge, and generally make St Martin's sparkle on the outside in preparation for the great season of Easter. Donations of heavy duty garbage bags greatly appreciated.

Vista House Busy Bee Sunday 25 March

A two hour Busy Bee has been arranged to tidy up Vista House. Everyone is encouraged to come along between 2pm and 4pm on Sunday 25 March to help with the many tasks of cleaning, gardening, painting, dusting etc. A list is on the notice board outside Vista House during OSHC hours.

The Parish Council and the Management Committee of Vista House Inc will be holding a joint meeting on Tueday 13 March to consider the future directions for Vista House. Any suggestions can be directed to members of Parish Council or the Vista House Management Committee or you may wish to attend the meeting. Perhaps you have thought about Vista House being an Environment Centre for the Community or an extended Op shop!
The meeting will commence at 7.30 and will be held in the Parish Centre or Hall.

Congratulations to Mzingisi Mqhum on his graduation from Curtin University of Technology with a Bachelor of Social Science (Geography) and a Bachelor of Commerce. Mzingisi has been a member of the St Martin's Parish during his time in WA. Mzingisi has also been working as a Boarding House Supervisor at Hale School in Wembley Downs.

Congratulations also to Nthati Rameste on being conferred with her PhD from Curtin University.
